Summit Malibu views addiction recovery as an individualized program that places emphasis on the whole person, not just the addiction. By using different therapeutic approaches, our staff creates an effective recovery plan to meet the needs of each resident and their respective lifestyles. Spirituality and recovery is part of the human experience in which we explore who we are and what our life is about, which is why it plays such an integral role in our treatment programs.
To aid our residents in expediting their spiritual growth and recovery, our team implements the practice of Kundalini yoga. Though all forms of yoga require mindfulness, Kundalini specifically focuses on the channeling of energy and fostering a sense of joy. Rather than assuming static postures, Kundalini yoga is a form of yoga focusing on dynamic postures that require mental and physical focus. Breathing exercises and the repetition of mantras clear the mind of restless thoughts to keep our residents present in the moment. Within our yoga practice, Summit Malibu emphasizes breathwork; deep breathing exercises used to soothe anxiety and relieve emotional pain. Breathwork oxygenates the blood and brings it to an alkalotic state. This, in turn, eases tension in the body and can have instant results once implemented into a meditation regimen.
Our staff also incorporates Reiki when handcrafting each resident’s treatment plan. A popular eastern healing technique in which practitioners tap into the energy of their residents to restore their physical and emotional wellbeing, Reiki is based on the idea that an unseen energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is depleted, more than just the mind is affected; they are also physically impacted and may experience a propensity towards illness or stress. High energy is what allows us to feel happy, healthy, and conscious.
At Summit Malibu, we begin each day with intention setting and daily affirmations. This allows our residents to begin their day without angst or anxiety. The implementation of philosophies derived from Don Ruiz’s widely-praised book entitled The Four Agreements will enable residents to focus on what is necessary in the moment, as opposed to the past or future. A review of the day and a gratitude list creates the perfect ending to a very accomplished day at Summit Malibu.
Through emphasizing spirituality in recovery, our residents transform, heal, and get a boost in creativity, health, and quality of life.
