Drug and Alcohol Resources

Summit Malibu is a committed member of the professional addiction recovery community. We believe very strongly in assisting people in locating the addiction recovery resources that will best serve their needs.

Alcohol Use Disorder

Millions of Americans suffer from the effects of alcohol addiction and abuse, whether directly as an alcoholic or indirectly through a friend or family member. For years, substance addiction was not diagnosed or treated as the illness it is. As the attitude toward the disease shifted, treatment programs and their results improved greatly and many drug, alcohol and addictions recovery resource centers became available. This is critically important because drawing awareness to alcohol use disorders is the first step to a solution.

Alcohol Use Disorder: is a chronic relapsing brain disease characterized by an impaired ability to stop or control alcohol use despite adverse social, occupational, or health consequences.

Here are some statistics about alcohol use disorders:

  • Alcohol-Related Deaths: An estimated 88,0008 people (approximately 62,000 men and 26,000 women) die from alcohol-related causes annually, making alcohol the third leading preventable cause of death in the United States.
  • According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 37,133 people died in traffic crashes in 2017 in the United States (latest figures available), including an estimated 10,874 people who were killed in drunk driving crashes involving a driver with an illegal BAC (.08 or greater).
  • On average, roughly 40 percent of inmates who are incarcerated for violent offenses were under the influence of alcohol during the time of their crime.

Alcohol Use Disorder can range from mild to severe, and recovery is possible regardless of severity.

At Summit Malibu, we do an extensive evaluation of each client’s mental and physical health when they enter treatment. Armed with this information, we create a treatment program that is personalized for each client’s needs.
