At Summit Malibu, we strongly believe Therapeutic Activities for Addiction Recovery are effective for healing the mind, body, and soul.

At first, balancing fitness and recovery from addiction may seem hard to adopt, but we have learned that exercise becomes a significant ally to our residents on their journey to recovery and long after. We offer a wide range of physical activities that residents of all fitness levels can participate.

Residents seeking a fitness option that incorporates meditative practices may gravitate towards our yoga instruction three days a week, while those interested in a higher impact workout may find themselves more invested in utilizing our offsite gym.

We provide free weights, a treadmill, basketball hoop, and a pool for exercise onsite.

For residents who struggle with anger or anxiety, a good workout can serve as a healthy coping mechanism for calming the nerves and improving one’s mental state. In numerous studies, exercise has been shown to activate the release of endorphins which have a “feel good” effect on the brain, making exercise a natural mood enhancer and a way for our residents to work out aggression healthfully.

When our residents enhance addiction recovery through a fitness and activity plan that allows them to develop a routine, they are not only exercising their bodies, but they are also giving their mind a workout.
